BACKGROUND

SOUTH TURIN SUBURBS LACK OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

The project is located in the southern Turin suburbs, with a special focus on the municipality of Moncalieri. In this area there is a lack of opportunities for aggregation and social activation for young people, with the exception of some municipal activities of the “Sportello Moncalieri Giovane” (Moncalieri Youth Desk), and the realities and experiences of youth associationism are scarce.

Because of the few opportunities that the area offers, the greatest tendency among young people is to move to nearby Turin, thus leaving an ever-widening void in the area. The cause of this lack of opportunities, however, is not due to a lack of young people in the area.

OBJECTIVES

CREATING PATHWAYS FOR ACTIVE PARTICIPATION AND ENVIRONMENTALISM

The project wants to try to offer new opportunities for youth protagonism and spaces for active participation in a peripheral territory increasingly impoverished of this type of service; the main objective is therefore to intercept the many young people who frequent the identified territories so that they bring their own participation and activation to these same places. In addition, the project's specific goal is to build pathways of environmental activism and awareness on the issues of climate and environmental emergencies, trying to create and strengthen local environmental networks and associationism, also thanks to a communication campaign that sees young people as active protagonists in collaboration with other realities in the area.

HOW WE WORK

ACTIVITIES, EVENTS, WORKSHOPS ON CIVIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIVISM

To promote youth activism and participation within the territory effectively, the project includes a series of workshop activities and public events. Among the main activities, we find a path of civic activism, analysis and co-design for the establishment of an environmental youth presidium and a path of environmental journalism carried out with the editorial staff of Italia Che Cambia. In addition to these, there is a theater path and a workshop path for the production and editing of commercials/minidocumentaries on environmental issues. The paths created with the territories' youth are also integrated with numerous events such as:

a Swap Party, two ecological days of cleaning and caring for territories from waste abandonment, and some online exchange and twinning activities between the target territory and a youth group in Addis Ababa;
-an action-research on behavior change carried out with the RANAS methodology for the development of an awareness-raising campaign carried out by the youth;
an event to give back and celebrate the journey so far, on June 5th for Environment Day.

RESULTS

PROVIDE SKILLS AND BUILD NETWORKS FOR ACTIVE CITIZENS

The expected results of the project are related to the creation of new territorial activations among young people, in the environmental field, increasing commitment and participation.

Through the numerous activities of "ACT NOW! EVERYONE MAKES A DIFFERENCE" we intend to build solid tools and networks that can endure over time to maintain a horizontal dialogue and confrontation on ecological and environmental issues.

The objective of the project is certainly also to train specific skills through which to communicate these issues, raising awareness among young people, but also among all citizens, about the climate and environmental emergency and involving the latter through public events and activities that will be present in the territory.
